The neighborhood

We present for El Nido a preliminary project that proposes two artistic interventions at the entrances to the neighborhood, as an expression of the project's commitment to sustainability, the ecological balance of the area and the harmony between human beings and nature.

One of these interventions focuses on raising awareness of the worrying situation of Uruguayan toninas, a species in danger of extinction. According to the latest report published by the newspaper El País in 2019, there were only 63 copies on our shores.

Those of us who practice water sports and value marine fauna feel a deep admiration for these cetaceans. For this reason, artists committed to the cause were called upon to create a sculpture that acts as a wake-up call to this alarming reality.

The work presents three full figures, carrying a warning flag, and an empty figure, representing those who are no longer there. The sculptors responsible for this piece are Pablo Pi and Martín Pelenur.

On the other hand, the design of the access doors, made of wood, reinforces the message of sustainability and reuse of materials previously used by man. Railroad braces were chosen, arranged vertically, thus achieving a rustic elegance full of meaning.

Crossing these gates invites you to immerse yourself in a space where the native meets the exotic, and the natural meets the artificial. This duality is reflected in the coexistence between native and exotic flora, as well as in the presence of the sea next to a pool with waves, generating a unique and conscious sensory experience.
